Donald Trump: Ashley Tellis as US ambassador to India?


WASHINGTON: There is no rule, and barely a precedent, that an Indian-American or Person of Indian-origin (PIO) should be the US Ambassador to New Delhi. But already, "desi" names are flying around Washington for India-related jobs even before the Donald Trump is sworn in as President. An alumnus of the University of Bombay who came to US for graduate studies at the University of Chicago, he served as senior adviser to Robert Blackwill, the US Ambassador in New Delhi during 2001-2003. Keshap went to Colombo in August 2015 and is about mid-way through a normal diplomatic stint. Among the names doing the rounds for the post is Lisa Curtis, a Senior Research Fellow at the conservative Heritage Foundation.
