The firing of Don Cherry feels like a minor earthquake in the Canadian psyche, and for good reason. Cherry may have presided over Coach’s Corner on Hockey Night in Canada since Justin Trudeau’s father was prime minister. We bet there are a lot more people appalled by Cherry’s remarks casting doubt on the patriotism of immigrants than will be angry at the company for firing him. Ron MacLean, Cherry’s sidekick on Coach’s Corner for more than three decades, came under fire for failing to call him out on the spot on Saturday night. Overall, it was a good day for hockey.
