Don Braid: Harper’s blessing for Kenney doesn’t mean easy victory

Wildrose Leader Jean got a vigorous round of applause and a decent standing-O count (after Harper himself). Rona Ambrose, the interim federal Conservative leader, got off the best line Saturday at Stephen Harper’s riding barbecue in a storm-battered tent at Heritage Park. Ambrose backed him, too, while Jean and McIver, the interim PC leader, sat with smiles pasted on their faces. Kenney doesn’t say anything of substance about what he’d do as a leader or premier, beyond abolishing the carbon tax. It all seems so simple; bring federally-inspired unity to the two provincial conservative parties, and watch the NDP tent collapse in the conservative gale.
