Canada and Toronto have long been seen as among the best places in the world, attracting people from all over. When an NHL player tweeted about his awful Pearson experience in June, Mayor John Tory said the situation was unacceptable. No campaign was led to improve it, no calls for the Toronto Pearson board to justify why it remains an international embarrassment. In July, when answering criticism about the decline of Toronto, Tory said: “It can’t be quite as bad as those people were saying” since we appear on best-of lists. This election we need leaders who aren’t afraid to raise us out of the mediocrity we’re slowly sinking into.
