I REFER to the article “Man loses welfare due to extra income” (The Star, Dec 18) about a disabled person who was forfeited his subsistence allowance from the Welfare Department. In the first place, the subsistence allowance is given to a disabled person as a responsibility of the state in redistributing tax money in an effort to help the less fortunate among us. He should really be commended for taking the initiative to work extra hours just to provide for his family. It does not mean that the disabled’s subsistence allowance should be withdrawn. I think the Welfare Department needs to relook its conditions for giving out subsistence allowance to the disabled and not link it to income.
