We need to challenge what we think we know and what it truly means to be a Black-owned business. Black business owners and entrepreneurs still face racial discrimination in terms of access to capital and other financial resources. Odeen Eccleston, co-founder of Wiltshire Homes, was introduced to real estate when she was 9 years old and her parents made her read the Star’s real estate section. The home-building industry requires significant working capital, and Black business owners can face obstacles borrowing from traditional lending institutions. From tech to finance, food to real estate, Black-owned businesses are everywhere.
