What’s more, a growing number of physical activity programs have been studied and shown to produce health benefits over time, with results published in peer-reviewed journals. They are Active Living Every Day, Arthritis Foundation’s Aquatic Program, EnhanceFitness, Fit & Strong!, and Walk With Ease. Studies have shown that physical activity is needed to preserve or improve range of motion, maintain muscle strength and prevent atrophy, which can deter falls. Each session is 90 minutes, with an hour devoted to physical activity, including a warm-up, progressive aerobic training, and lower-extremity strengthening. Since partnering with the CDC to promote it in 2017, Fit & Strong has grown to 37 recreational agencies with 85 trained instructors and 1,300 participants.
