At least $50 million (Sh5.1 billion) in economic output is lost by Kenyan businesses each year as a result of work absences related to domestic abuse, a KPGM report shows. According to the survey, nearly two million (1.97million ) working women have experienced domestic violence and abuse over this period. The report - published ahead of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women - reveals the damaging impact of domestic abuse on careers and businesses globally. Four million women also missed out on a promotion as a result of domestic violence and abuse - suffering a related annual average salary loss of $2,900 per woman. Across nine countries, Kenya included, an estimated $13 billion a year is lost in potential earnings for victims of domestic abuse across the working population.
