Domestic sports events put on hold in Sri Lanka

Domestic sports events put on hold in Sri Lanka By the Sunday Times Sports Desk View(s): View(s):The Ministry of Defence has advised sports associations and organisers of sports events to hold back competitions and events for a few more days, until the prevailing security situation of the country eases, inthe aftermath of the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks which claimed over 250 lives. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) had planned a three-day bonding camp for its 15-man squad for the World Cup 2019 at the Special Forces facility in Maduru Oya followed by a five-day training camp in Dambulla. We may have to decide on this after assessing the security situation of the country, we are planning to hold a discussion this week. Lakshani’s feat was overshadowed by the tragic events that occurred last Sunday, where over 250 lives were lost and over 500 were injured by the deadly suicide attacks that rocked Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka Rugby, however, will go ahead with the planned two practice matches between Sri Lanka and Malaysia, to be played in Kuala Lumpur on May 1 and 4, as a preparation for the upcoming Asia Rugby Division I Championship to be held in Chinese Taipei on May 29 and June 1.
