Dolphin, dolphin, bird: MPI's spot the difference failBLAIR OUTHWAITE This bottlenose dolphin may be out of the water but that doesn't make it a bird. According to Forest and Bird, MPI supplied Bay of Plenty by-catch data from December 2017 showing 39 dolphins had been caught. Supplied MPI's letter to Forest and Bird in which it admits the error. Forest and Bird had initially believed the figures because purse seiners - a type of fishing system - were connected with dolphin captures. Forest and Bird was told of the error by the business involved in December, soon after MPI had provided the wrong data.
