OPINION: As formulas go, “dollars divided by fun” is alluringly simple. Households spend a lot on recreation, sometimes more than is good for them, so paying some mind to the amount of fun you get per dollar spent makes sense. Then divide it by the amount of fun you will get from the spending from 1 (least fun) to 10 (most fun). Money spent on clothing, and footwear, for example, should be approached in a far more businesslike fashion than often happens.
