The $500,000 funding was allocated as part of the 2016 budget and will lift the number of detection dogs to 18. The specially trained dogs will target criminals smuggling large sums of money into New Zealand, Customs Minister Nicky Wagner said. Customs will spend half a million dollars on five new detector dogs that can sniff out drugs and cash.
