THE use of images or pictures of dogs in advertisements or Chinese New Year decorations is only part of Chinese culture. Thus, the Malaysian Islamic Development Department has given its green light, “Jakim: It’s okay to use images of dogs” (The Star, Feb 7). But I can’t ask my neighbour to get rid of his dog because it does serve a purpose – to keep strangers and unwelcome guests away. When I take my evening walk, stray dogs would follow me and I have been threatened with a bite on my leg once in a while. A dog is just a dog, one of God’s numerous creations on earth.
