Clayton Kershaw is the greatest first round draft pick in Dodgers history. The Dodgers needed a closer, and on July 4, 1998, Lasorda shipped Konerko and Dennys Reyes to Cincinnati for Jeff Shaw. You can't knock the Dodgers' management of team of GM Fred Claire, farm director Charlie Blaney and scouting director Terry Reynolds for choosing Dreifort with the second pick of the 1993 draft. But it wasn't the first round draft pick that went so horribly wrong for Los Angeles. Club first round drafting actually peaked a bit with Dreifort in 1993, if you can believe that.
