Writing in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, a group of doctors say that the belief that saturated fats clog the arteries and cause coronary heart disease is “plain wrong”. However, they have been condemned by other medics, who accuse their editorial of being “simplistic”, “muddled” and “misleading”. Critics said that the phrase “real food” was meaningless and akin to the dietary fad for “clean eating”. The cardiologists, led by Aseem Malhotra, of Lister Hospital, Stevenage, wrote that coronary artery heart disease was a chronic inflammatory condition that responded to a Mediterranean-style diet…
