Earlier on Thursday, there had been conflicting reports about his death, and Wuhan Central Hospital said in a social media post just after midnight local time that he was in "critical condition." Li was "unfortunately infected during the fight against the pneumonia epidemic of the new coronavirus infection," the hospital said.
