The senior doctor on deck when a birth went horribly wrong, leading to the baby's death, admits he made a crucial mistake during the labour. The inquest into Charlotte's death entered its second day in Palmerston North on Thursday. A junior doctor ordered one at 11.30pm on August 10, but that was called off when a senior doctor was called in and he examined Charlotte's mother Stacey Harding. Some recent caesareans at the hospital had not gone well, so the senior doctor was cautious about going down that path. Those charts had Charlotte's heartbeat above 160 beats per minute for a consistent period of time, indicating distress.
