Mountain bikers should get their first glimpse in the next month or so of where future trails are likely to be allowed on Department of Conservation land in Otago. The department is preparing a conservation management strategy review for cycle trails, and those wanting to have a say on where trails should be had until the end of May to submit their proposals. Doc is now assessing the proposals but has declined to make them public. It will, however, put out a draft management strategy in July or August and then invite submissions. The trust trying to complete the network complained earlier this year about the lack of progress on securing access to Doc land.
