The Department of Transportation (DoTr) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) have teamed up to boost human resources (HR) initiatives and strategies in the railway sector. In a statement on Thursday, the DoTr said it signed a memorandum of understanding with CHEd on providing both workers and students with opportunities to pursue careers related to railway operations. Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said the agreement would offer access to available courses and training for existing and future railway personnel, adding that this was necessary, given the current administration’s numerous railways projects. According to him, the government eyes to expand the country’s operational railway length from the current 77 kilometers to 1,200 km in 2022 and beyond. “With the goal as enormous as this, we will be needing the help and expertise of quality railway personnel,” Tugade was quoted as saying in the statement.
