Mr Johnson’s bid to become prime minister has been beset by negative headlines about his personal life and accusations that he has been reluctant to engage in debate on his policies. Last weekend Mr Duncan Smith joined other pro-Johnson Brexiteers to warn him not to renegotiate Theresa May’s deal with Brussels and to guarantee that the UK will leave the European Union on October 31. In a radio interview today Mr Johnson said that Britain would exit the EU on Hallowe’en, “do or die”. He later wrote to his rival Jeremy Hunt calling on him to make the same commitment.
