Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena said the country must not depend on imported milk powder and must promote local dairy production. Speaking to reporters on Thursday (22), Minister Gunawardena said freight container charges have gone up north of $2000 and there is a shortage of containers globally due to the effects of COVID-19, which has hampered the import and export process. “If Sri Lanka continues to wait for the ships to arrive, her people will suffer,” noted the minister adding that given the present global market situation the price of gas should increase, however, the government has decided to drop the prices of gas.
