Some District Health Boards (DHBs) are funding twice the number of weight loss surgeries than the Ministry of Health is directly funding. CATRIN OWEN/STUFF Auckland's three district health boards funded more bariatric surgeries than the Ministry of Health in 2017/2018. In 2017/2018 the Ministry of Health directly funded 12 bariatric surgeries at ADHB, 14 surgeries in Waitemata DHB and 14 in Counties Manukau DHB. Counties Manukau DHB consultant surgeon Richard Babor said when the Ministry of Health began funding a number of surgeries, the DHB was already doing more.
