John Rohan signed on as District recreation director in 1993. His charge then included around 56,000 square feet of recreational facilities. Now almost 25 years later, he oversees a staff of about 500 full-time and part-time employees who manage almost 1.9 million square feet of recreation areas and parks. That number represents just the beginning for the newly redesignated District Recreation and Parks Department, as the staff prepares for The Villages’ expansion in and around the villages of Fenney, Southern Oaks and West Lake.
