“Moreover, we were able to describe the infection rates in a real-world scenario, where vaccine rollout coincided with a surge of infections. Of the healthcare workers, 379 tested positive at least a day after the first dose, and 37 individuals tested positive after receiving both vaccinations. The researchers explained that there is a 1.19% risk of testing positive after vaccination for healthcare workers at UCSD, and a risk of 0.97% among those at UCLA. And third, there are differences in the demographics of healthcare workers compared to participants in the vaccine clinical trials. The researchers did, however, note that positive test results 14 days after the second dose of the vaccine are rare.
