Workers from Kualiti Alam, an agency engaged to clean up scheduled waste, found the landfill yesterday when cleaning up the illegal factory lot that was shut down on Tuesday for contaminating the river. Kualiti Alam Sdn Bhd Scheduled Waste Action Team consultant Datuk A. Mariasoosay said they discovered an illegal landfill near the site just a few metres from the river. “Companies dealing with scheduled waste are required under the law to be registered with the Department of Environment (DOE) since the waste has to be properly disposed,” he added. During StarMetro’s visit, over 20 workers were seen sealing and packaging all scheduled waste. One of the operators neighbouring the illegal factory said it had been operating for at least five years.
