Delays in processing checks for people who want to work with children and protected adults have been revealed. The Scottish government is meant to ensure that anyone applying for disclosure checks, including Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) applications, are given the result within two weeks. Applicants must receive a PVG clearance before they can begin employment with children and certain adults. Alison Harris, the Scottish Conservatives’ spokeswoman on children and young people, expressed concern about the delays. “No one doubts the importance of these checks to ensure our children and vulnerable adults are protected,” she said.
