But at a competition Sunday afternoon, it malfunctioned, sent debris flying, and left a man and a woman injured in Delaware. The competition, which is a regular event, involved pumpkins being launched from homemade air-powered contraptions that have long cannons. Efforts to reach the sponsors of the pumpkin launching competition were unsuccessful. Pumpkin launching events have been around for years throughout the country.
