In a move that disappointed the city's refugee network, Immigration New Zealand (INZ) named Invercargill as a new refugee settlement location. Christchurch was considered in the latest resettlement review, alongside Invercargill, New Plymouth, Rotorua and Tauranga. Christchurch City Councillor and multicultural working party chairman Jimmy Chen was disappointed at the decision, given the city's employment opportunities. Christchurch mayor Lianne Dalziel said she was advised the Government would review Christchurch as a resettlement location at the end of the year.
