VANCOUVER — Actors and directors, including filmmaker Kevin Smith, are throwing their support behind a beloved east Vancouver theatre that has been put up for sale. The Rio Theatre is one of the city’s last remaining independent cinemas and is known for its lively late-night screenings of cult classics, science fiction and horror movies. The building’s owner has listed the property, and the theatre’s operators say rezoning changes mean a developer is likely to tear it down.
