People say, a lot, “This seems very timely,” and it’s been part of my life for a really, really long time before all of this. Even though the Fat Underground emerged at the same time as second-wave feminism, in general feminism hadn’t really done a lot about fat, really. I mean, when I was writing Dietland, I couldn’t find a model for what I was trying to do. I looked at “Thelma and Louise,” or even a movie like “Inglourious Basterds,” because it has that revenge fantasy.
