Unfortunately, this has led to high competition for fish among fish feed processors, human consumers and factories that utilise fish and fish products. The good thing is that some insects have higher protein content than that found in fish meal. This is evident in insects that feed on mammalian wastes such as black soldier flies, housefly pupae and dung beetles. Similarly, the protein content of terrestrial insects such as crickets is higher than that of fish meals. Their fatty acid profile can be modified to mimic that of fish meal by addition of fish offal in their diet.
