Finally, a decade after moving from Shea Stadium to Citi Field, the Mets announced this week they are building a statue of Tom Seaver. As part of the Mets 50th anniversary celebration of the 1969 World Series team, COO Jeff Wilpon announced that the team has commissioned a statue of Tom Seaver at the press conference renaming the team's address to 41 Seaver Way. During the festivities celebrating the 1969 Mets 50th World Series championship anniversary, Seaver's absence was at the forefront of his teammate's concerns. "The first guy to greet me was Tom Seaver," Gaspar said. The Mets missed a huge opportunity to give Seaver his proper due when they opened Citi Field in 2009.
