Photo: MoFADHAKA, March 15, 2026 (BSS): State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam today sought Russia’s support for Bangladesh’s candidature for the Presidency of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) for the 2026–2027 term. During the meeting, the Russian envoy congratulated Shama Obaed Islam on assuming office as the State Minister for Foreign Affairs and expressed confidence that the longstanding relations between Bangladesh and Russia would continue to grow stronger. The Russian ambassador reaffirmed Moscow’s commitment to enhancing bilateral relations and appreciated Bangladesh’s continued constructive engagement with Russia. Both sides expressed satisfaction over the steady progress of bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the longstanding and mutually beneficial partnership between the two friendly countries.
