Students of seven government colleges blocked roads at multiple key points in the capital on Wednesday, demanding the immediate issuance of the final ordinance to establish Dhaka Central University. At the same time, Dhaka College students blocked the Science Lab intersection, bringing traffic to a standstill at the four-way junction. Classes for the 2024–25 academic year of the proposed Dhaka Central University, comprising seven government colleges in the capital, began on January 1. The proposed university includes Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Women’s College, Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College. The “Dhaka Central University Act–2025” draft was published on the website of the Secondary and Higher Education Division on September 24 last year.
