Dhaka city polls: EC waits High Court decision

While talking to the journalists on Monday, he said: “It is now a court matter and we will follow the directives given by the High Court.”“Earlier we had taken the decision of holding the polls on January 30, considering weekends and secondary school certificate (SSC) examinations.”The secretary added: “High court and government will decide on the issue. On December 22 last year, the Election Commission announced January 30 as the election date of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC). Later, Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Ashoke Kumar Ghosh filed a writ seeking High Court’s directive to reschedule the polls slated for January 30. Advocate Ghosh filed the writ on Monday, seeking to defer the election Saraswati Puja falls on the same day of the polls.
