Following the July 1 Gulshan attack, several Facebook and Twitter accounts predicted another attack. Briefing the media at his office on Thursday, he said, “It is with deep concern that we notice a vicious circle is spreading false, baseless and made-up rumours about impending terror attacks and spreading panic among the public mind. “Spreading such lies spreads panic in the minds of the people and destabilises the country and hinders its progress. They say schools will be targeted, restaurants...markets and malls... hotels will be targeted.”“Spreading such rumours is a crime of forgery. “There is no security threat to the country,” the DMP chief said and asked the people to report any individual they find indulging in spreading such lies.
