We find the path across the ice with the least amount of slob — snow melted on top of the ice that creates a layer of deep water. The unstable sea ice, warming temperatures, more frequent storms and unpredictable weather make it clear: climate change is here in the North. In this northeastern corner of Canada, the downstream effects of Bay du Nord would be immediate. I want to teach my grandchildren how to ice fish, how to navigate the ice like my family and I do today, and like our ancestors before us. Destroying the ice is destroying us.
