Desborough's ladies progress past Handy Cross in Mason Trophy


Keith Roper and Gina Braddock--PRESS REPORT FOR DESBOROUGH BOWLING CLUB W/E 17.11.24It was National Competition time again and first up was the ladies in the Mason Trophy where the opponents were Handy Cross. The format in this competition is one rink at home and one away and with the comfort of playing at Desborough, the rink skipped by Helen Jones won comfortably and at Handy Cross Lorraine Woodley’s foursome narrowly went down, giving Desborough a 10 shot win, 37 – 27. Lastly it was the Egham Trophy against Chawton Park who had put Desborough’s men out of the Denny Cup the day before but with the mixed format, the men could rely on the ladies assistance and Desborough duly won by 20 shots, 81 – 61. The rink skipped by Clive Behmber narrowly lost which left all the glory to go to John Skinner, Tony Buckley, Brian Jones and Andrew Essex who won by 12 shots, 21 – 9.
