Deregulate express bus fares for survival of express bus operators

Pan Malaysian Bus Operators Association (PMBOA) President Datuk Mohamad Ashfar Ali said the government must consider deregulating express bus fares to allow express bus operators to survive. “This is something the government has to think about,”“Most of the express bus operators are Bumiputera and most of them operate routes in the East Coast. We do not have flexibility in determining our fares because there is no deregulation of express bus fares,” he said. He added that if government offered deregulation of fares, express bus operators can provide value added facilities such as wifi, and better deals for the passengers. He said providing more drivers and deregulation of express bus fares would ensure the survival of express bus operations which is also in line with the government’s aspiration to encourage the use of public transportation.
