Deputy secretary sent to jail for amassing wealth illegally

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Meher Nigar Sultana sent Deputy Secretary Mohammed Amin on Monday after rejecting his bail prayer, Md Imran Hossain, lawyer of the accused, told the Dhaka Tribune. SMM Akter Hamid Bhuiyan, deputy director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), produced Mohammed Amin before the court, seeking court’s order to confine him to jail. At 11am on Monday, Mohammed Amin was picked up from his Moghbazar residence for allegedly accumulating wealth illegally, ACC’s Public Relation Official Pranab Kumer Bhattacharya told the Dhaka Tribune. Deputy Secretary Amin is currently an officer on special duty (OSD), a position that rarely gives opportunity to work. The ACC accused him in a case filed with Ramna police in July accusing him of illegally amassing wealth worth Tk48.67 lakh.
