Deputy police chief 'sacked'Wirachai: Faced internal probeWirachai Songmetta has been removed from the deputy national police chief position, according to an announcement seemingly issued by the Prime Minister's Office and circulating on social media. It said the decision to sack Mr Wirachai took effect on July 29. It remains unclear why the announcement was only made public yesterday, one week after Gen Prayut put pen to paper. Pol Lt Gen Nithas Limsiriphan, chief of the Police Commission's office, told Thai PBS he was checking its status. In January, Mr Wirachai was moved to an inactive post for defying an order from national police chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda, but was reinstated on July 24.
