KUALA LUMPUR: Police have dismissed claims by North Korean Ri Jong-chol, previously detained over the probe into the murder of Kim Jong-nam, that he was the victim of a conspiracy “to damage the honour” of his country. Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said police were only doing their job in investigating all aspects of the case. Speaking in Beijing en route to Pyongyang, North Korea, after his deportation, Jong-chol accused the Malaysian investigators of using coercion to extract a confession from him. Noor Rashid denied this. On Malaysia’s expulsion of North Korean Ambassador Kang Chol within 48 hours from Saturday, Noor Rashid said that the Immigration Department would ensure that the diplomat leaves the country.
