Wichman Uriaere is fighting deportation to New Zealand, a country he has never been to. Uriaere's visa was revoked because he was sentenced to prison for two and a half years for aggravated robbery, a crime he says he did not commit. Uriaere said when he was paroled he did his best to turn his life around but "the Minister decided I didn't pass the character test". Dutton said it was of national interest to cancel Uriaere's visa because of the seriousness and nature of his criminal history. Uriaere's lawyer has lodged another appeal – his last ditch effort to stop his deportation to New Zealand.
