Department of Health blocks €2k to Cervical Check victims

The Department of Health has blocked a €2,000 payment to the latest group of 250 women affected by the CervicalCheck scandal, who were added in the wake of this week’s Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) report. Correspondence from the Health Service Executive (HSE) to patient advocates, seen by the Irish Examiner, makes it clear that the promised payment will not be made available to them. After the recommendation of Gabriel Scally, the Government agreed in 2018 to provide immediate ex-gratia payments to each woman impacted by the CervicalCheck scandal. “It turns out now and we have got official notification that they won’t be paying out that €2,000 ex-gratia payment as part of the package,” said Mr Teap. “The Government needs to support this,” said Mr Teap.
