DepEd seeks data allowance for teachers – The Manila Times

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Thursday called for the release of internet data allowances for teachers and senior high school (SHS) students next year to further aid learning amid the coronavirus pandemic. “We recognize the importance of load allowance for our learners and teachers to deliver quality education despite [these] challenging times,” she added. “With support from our Congress and the DBM, we shall push to continue for more financial assistance to our stakeholders.”If released, 3.2 million SHS students will receive a monthly data allowance of P250 and 900,000 teachers will get a monthly data subsidy of P450 for three months in 2021. Around P200 million is allocated to expand the production of learning materials in DepEd Commons, DepEd TV and radio; P150 million for the printing and delivery of self-learning modules; and P50 million for the establishment of 2,000 radio transmitters in so-called Last Mile Schools. This is in line with the DepEd’s aim to strengthen Digital Education and Information Technology, and Digital Infrastructure and Alternative Learning Modalities, as stipulated in Republic Act 11494 or the “Bayanihan to Recover as One Act.”
