Denis Tsarev: Don't compare our statues to those of actual tyrants


When the Hungarians strove to liberate their country from the communist dictatorship that was imposed upon them, and which eliminated all their political rights, this was a strong and courageous gesture. The statues in all these examples were creations of illegitimate regimes of usurpers who clung to power through violence and by denying political rights to most of their citizens. However imperfect they were, our prominent politicians of the past stand as symbols of the free and democratic system that we have today. He has been involved in numerous projects dedicated to human rights in Russia and other former communist countries.
