While this gives temporal satisfaction, what many people have never known is that getting a coping mechanism instead of confronting the problem is denial. I was in Johannesburg, South Africa, miles away from my family in Nairobi for a business meeting - not a mastectomy! However, four years down the line, after I was declared cancer free, I’m still in denial. It’s only recently at a cancer dinner gala that I gained the courage to speak about my journey with cancer. I know I could give all the money I have if only to get rid of that feeling of anxiety and the persistent pangs of denial.
