Dengue fever may strike large parts of Europe

Dengue fever could strike large parts of Europe in five years if nothing is done to control global warming, a researcher has predicted. Dengue fever is, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), the world's most serious mosquito-born viral disease and has no cure or effective treatment. Dr Helmersson predicted the potential spread of a species of mosquito that carries Dengue fever using mathematical models. There is no cure against Dengue fever, and scientists are urgently trying to develop vaccines and treatments against the killer disease. Only nine countries have experienced dengue fever epidemics before 1970, but it is now endemic in more than 100 nations across the world.
