Demonetisation continues to torment Sarath Kumar


more-inIn a first of its kind case related to demonetisation, All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi (AISMK) leader and actor R. Sarath Kumar has been facing a tough time in getting back ₹9 lakh seized from him during the 2016 Assembly elections. Subsequently, while hearing a writ appeal preferred by him, a Division Bench of the High Court advised the actor to obtain a clarification from the Supreme Court. He did as advised and the apex court clarified that the Madras High Court could decide the case independently since it does not in any way challenge demonetisation as such. They also directed the CEO to obtain the serial numbers of the currency notes from the Thoothukudi Collector and submit the details in court by March 6. “When the Election Commission is very clear that it was not tainted money, the appellant cannot be denied his entitlement.
