Demolishing BGMEA building: SC extends deadline by 7 months

The Supreme Court has given Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) seven months’ time to demolish its headquarters in Hatirjheel, Dhaka. A five-member bench of the Appellate Division, led by Acting chief justice Md Abdul Wahhab, passed the order Sunday morning in response to a time petition filed by the BGMEA seeking one year time to demolish the building. The 15-storey building stands on a critical spot in Dhaka, blocking the connection between two large water bodies – Hatirjheel lake and Begunbari canal.
